The Catgut and Steel Band
New Zealand's premier folk-rock band Mike and Anna are joined by the Growling Dogs rhythm section.
The Catgut and Steel Band (named for the the strings on their instruments) are a contomperary folk five-piece: Mike Moroney (electric guitar, banjo, mandolin, vocals), Anna Bowen (fiddle, mandolin, lagerphone, vocals), Paul Southworth (bass guitar), Graeme Peters (acoustic guitar, vocals) and Jimmy Higgs (drums, vocals) based in Dunedin, New Zealand. The Catgut and Steel Band perform regularly at weddings and conferences, pubs and clubs to great acclaim.
With a repertoire as diverse as the Dubliners to Dylan, Steeleye to Sting, this band puts a new slant on the songs you know so well with their acoustic/electric treatments and great vocal harmonies. Always full of energy and spontenaity.
A more formal dance appeals? The Catgut and Steel Band can play great dance tunes and called dances, bush dances, barndances, contra dances and more. Mike has been calling dances for many years and the band's selection of dance tunes is always interesting and uplifting: tarantellas, klezmer tunes, polkas, jigs and reels from many countries, not to mention a great range of beautiful waltzes and slow airs.
